3 October 2008

Luanda — The Angolan Head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos, Friday in Luanda urged the newly sworn in government to continue strengthening its action in the health and education domains.

"The country's health coverage and indicators have improved greatly, but the goals have not yet been achieved", said the Statesman, whilst presiding over the new government's swearing in ceremony.

President Dos Santos called for improvement in the National Health System, with further training of physicians, specialists and hospital managers, with view to improve the quality of medical and medicine assistance.

Regarding the education domain, the Head of State stressed that the number of pupils and students at all levels has increased and academic programmes have improved, but there is still much to be done.

After calling for the assessment of the implementation of the education reform and higher education subsystem, so as to correct mistakes, the Statesman also stressed the need to create tools for the implementation of guidelines from the governance programme approved by voters, with view to improve education, working conditions of teachers and the management of academic facilities at all levels.

The President concluded his speech by calling for literacy lessons and technical-professional training of some youths and adults.
