Angola: Hunger and Poverty are Priorities - Head of State

Luanda — The President of Angola, José Eduardo dos Santos, this Friday here said that the combat to hunger and poverty are the main priorities, the same as the implementation of the sub-programme of food security or nourishment self-sufficiency.

Speaking during the swearing in of the new government, the Head of State informed that the basis of this sub-programme have practically been launched, and there is a need to improve theme, matching actions of the sectors of agriculture, industry, trade, services of control of quality and properly organise its application with annual valuable goals.

A special attention, in this field, should be paid to rural communities, by implementing, with the same importance, the Integrated Rural Development Programme, he assured.

José Eduardo dos Santos also reminded that a very ambitious goal was set for the housing sector, this is, promote the construction of various residences, during the current mandate.

"The sooner we start, the better", referred the President, adding that "a programme that started four months ago is being implemented for this purpose".

The Statesman announced that, landed reserves have been identified, in all provinces, and researches are being made in terms of public policies and the legal tools that aim at easing the land distribution, access to credit to housing and credit to estate and the creation of partnerships between the State and the private sector.

To support this effort, "we need to speed up the rehabilitation of the iron manufacturing and transforming industry, increase the production of cement and all construction materials and promote trade at affordable prices", added the President of the Republic, to whom, there is also a need for dynamic teams and a vigorous actions of the government".
