Maiduguri — A commercial motorcycle operator popularly called 'achaba' was stabbed to death by a suspected robber in Maiduguri who attempted to snatch the bike from him.
Kanem Trust learnt that the deceased, Baffa Ibrahim who until his death resided in Bulunkutu, a suburb of Maiduguri died due to the injuries he sustained from the attack as the suspected hoodlum was said to have stabbed him on stomach several times.
It was also gathered that the robber, who disguised as a passenger, boarded the motorcycle from Bulunkutu to Bolori; but he suddenly attacked the commercial rider en route even though he was unable to snatch the bike as the repeated scream of the deceased attracted passers-by.
An eye witness, Malam Lawan Mustapha, stated that, "we were just passing by the road when we heard a loud screaming. So we quickly turned to where the shout was coming from, on reaching there, we saw an okada rider in a pool of his own blood. Initially we thought he was involved in an accident, but the victim managed to narrate the incident to us".
Mustapha added that they hurriedly rushed the okada rider to a near- by hospital, but on reaching there, doctors confirmed that he was dead.
When contacted, the Borno State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Bilyaminu Bello said that, he was not aware of the incident at the time of filing this report. The body of the commercial motorcycle rider has since been buried in Maiduguri according Islamic rites.
