Windhoek — The annual Windhoek Agricultural and Industrial Show ended on Saturday with a mixed response from exhibitors and visitors alike.

Exhibitors were split on the success of the show with some saying visitors spent less money at their stalls while other exhibitors were able to sell all their stock to consumers.

Many of the visitors, however, felt that this year's show was "less exciting" compared to the past shows.

However, the turnout was excellent judging by the queues at the gates on Thursday and Friday evenings.

Josias Kumeka-Ndhlovu, of BADIMARK, was one of the exhibitors with smiles all over their faces when this year's show closed.

South African Kumek-Ndhlovu managed to sell his entire stock of special ironing boards.

"Last weekend, Thursday and Friday were our busiest days of the entire show.

We sold the entire stock and had to replenish it," said Kumeke-Ndhlovu.

Certain parastatals and government ministries also experienced a good turnout at the show. The Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration had a considerable number of people streaming to its stand in search of information and application for various requirements.

However, the Roads Authority had a field day with "a very good number of people sitting for the learner's driving licence." Applicants for the learner's driving licence were still sitting minutes before closing time on Saturday evening.

The informal sector, with food and other merchandise on offer, also experienced a mixed response with some saying business was slow, while others said they had a good week.

Blessing Kaombe and Maxwell Shumba were two of the informal traders who had a good week with most of their flags sold. Kaombe and Shumba said business was good Thursday and Friday but slowed on Saturday. The duo were selling national flags for countries and flags for South African rugby sports clubs.

The Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Water and Forestry Isak Katali officially opened the show on Thursday evening.
