Nigeria: Lad Did Well - Ikpeme

6 October 2008

NFF deputy secretary general, Emmanuel Ikpeme says Jossy Lad was retained as Super Falcons head coach because he did well during the Olympic Games.

Ikpeme said Jossy Lad was retained because members of the technical committee did not think the Falcons did badly at the Olympic Games.

"It's true that there was initial, talk about removing Ladipo, but it was mostly because the fans were against him. Taking the fans into consideration, however, would have restricted the coach's chances to emotions and sentiments.

"On the technical point of view, it was agreed that Ladipo had done well with the Falcons, considering that the results they achieved in China were nothing drastic compared with what the team had done in the past.

"It was felt that the need to allow him another chance should be there, especially with the African Women's Championship just round the corner. It is expected he would get better results," Ikpeme told a private radio station in Lagos.
