Luanda — Angolan journalist João Melo, of Movimento advertising agency, on Saturday evening became, for the first time in 30 years, the winner of the "Maboque" journalism prize, which entered its 16th edition.
The successor of Severino Carlos, who received USD 70,000, overcame journalists such as Gustavo Costa, of the "Novo Jornal" newspaper, and Matias Adriano, of the Sports newspaper, as well as "Bom Dia Angola" and "Dossier" programmes of the Public Television of Angola (TPA) and of the State-run newspaper "Jornal de Angola", respectively.
Apart from João Melo, former director general of the Angola News Agency (ANGOP), during the gala, prizes were also awarded to the commentator of the "Luanda" radio station, Amaro Fonseca, with the Vernacular Language Prize, a category that was introduced into the current edition.
The "animator" of the "Balumuka" programme received USD 5,000 as a prize, the same amount attributed to the winner of the Image category, Igídio Messu, photographer of the "Figuras e Negócios" magazine.
The prize of commentator of the year was attributed to Ana Lemos, who recieved USD 10,000, due to her success as the news presenter of the Public Television of Angola (TPA).
