Angola: Minister Welcomes More Women in Government

4 October 2008

Luanda — The new minister of Family and Women Promotion, Genoveva da Conceição Lino, Friday in Luanda applauded the nomination of a considerable number of women in the Government that emerged from he September 5 legislative election.

"In this third Republic, the number of women, both in Parliament and in Government, has increased considerably," said Genoveva Lino, on the fringes of the swearing-in of the new Government.

She stated that the promotion of women in decision making organs resulted from their demands about gender.

Arguing that the major gender contractions are noted in the power, said women must compete on equal terms with men as, she stressed, "they make the nations and contribute to their development."

The minister highlighted the great responsibility women have in the country.

The newly invested Government, led by prime minister Paulo Kassoma, comprises 33 ministers and two secretaries of State.
