Luanda — Maya Cool won the 2008 edition of the yearly national top-ten music contest Friday in Luanda, with the song "Ti Paciência".
The musician got 21,890 votes from listeners of the State-owned Radio Nacional de Angola broadcasting station, corresponding to 26,81 percent.
He received the equivalent to 15,000, plus an additional Usd 500 for his participation. Lucas de Brito "Maya Cool" has thus succeeded to Matias Damásio, winner of the 2007 edition with the song "Porquê".
Ary, with the song "Teu Grande Amor", 8,620 votes (10,56 percent) and Paulo Flores, "Je Pê", 5,790 votes (7,56 percent), came second and third, respectively.
A total of Usd 8,000 went for the second placed, whereas the third got 5,000, plus an additional 500 each for their participation.
Other contestants were Bruno M, Konde, Melvy, Cristo, Socorro, Konde and Yuri da Cunha.
100,000 coupons were released around the country for the public to vote for their most beloved singer. Of that number, 81,640 were used, with Luanda responding for 27 percent of the votes valid, according to the organisers.
The awarding gala, that served to honour Angolan late musician, Alberto Teta Lando, was witnessed by more than 400 people, with stress to the ministers of Culture, Rosa Cruz e Silva and Education, António Burity da Silva, Luanda governor, Francisca do Espírito Santo, and the national director of Social Communication, Luís de Matos.
