Botswana: Khubamang Hails Boxer's Performance

Promoter Thuso Khubamang has hailed the performance of Botswana professional boxer, Peter Phelane after his fight with a South African opponent, Matswake Moselesele.

Phelane lost the flyweight bout after a split decision last Friday. But his coach Khubamang said that despite the loss, he gave a good account of himself.

He said the fight gave the spectators their money's worth. Khubamang added that Phelane started slowly but came back strongly in the last two rounds. "He fought well in the last two rounds but it was too late," he said. He added that Phelane was a bit nervous perhaps because of the crowd that supported his opponent.

Khubamang revealed that prior to the fight, Phelane was struggling with flu, which could have affected his performance. It was Phelane's first eight round fight as he has been participating in six rounds bouts. Besides Khubamang, Phelane was accompanied by assistant coach, Obinna Ihenacho together with the manager of professional boxers in Botswana, Dusan Cakic and other local boxers like Dintwa Sloca and Samara Lubbe.

Phelane turned professional while a student in 2002 in South Africa. He is currently a teacher at Bokamoso Junior Secondary School. His professional record is 5-1. He was signed by Khubamang's promotions company, Scud Missile Promotions last year, joining the likes of Sloca, Binda, Moses Kamera and Kgotla Baeti.

Meanwhile, Khubamang revealed that while in South Africa, he spoke to a few promoters to see if two of his boxers, Seroba Binda and Sloca can take part in professional bouts in the near future. He said he is organising a fight for Lubbe.
