Nigeria: Enyimba Put Final Slot in Danger

Enyimba football club of Aba yesterday put their quest to reach the final of this year's CAF Champions League on a shaky note after a goalless draw with Egyptian giants, Al-Ahly at the Aba Township Stadium.

The Nigerian side needed a victory in the first leg played yesterday at the front of their home crowd, who were on hand to cheer the team to victory and stand a chance of reaching the final for the third time after winning the 2003 and 2004 editions back-to-back.

Roaring on their home fans support, Enyimba came out on two different occasions to give the crowd something to cheer, but the Egyptian side defence line proved unbreakable for the two-time champions.

Enyimba will have their hands full when they travel to Cairo, Egypt for the return leg in a forthnight, if they hope to qualify for the final ahead of Al-Ahly who are the heart of the Egyptian national team. The Nigerian team is yet to record an away victory in the championship, losing 3-2 away to Al-Hilal in Sudan, 3-0 to TP Mazembe in Congo and 3-0 to Cotton Sport of Cameroon in Daura during their group B match campaign.

Enyimba reached the semi-finals as group runners-up with 9 points behind Cotton Sport with 10.
