Nairobi — Forty three adult learners will sit this year's Kenya Certificate of Primary Education in Naivasha District.
The district's adult education officer, Ms Virginia Kuria, said 36 of the candidates are inmates at Naivasha Maximum Security Prison.
She said only two women registered to sit the exam and attributed this to stigmatisation and heavy responsibilities that some of them bear.
Ms Kuria said society is yet to fully accept adult education as an alternative way of acquiring knowledge. She lamented the shortage of teachers for the programme.
