Kenya: Councillor in Rape Case Freed On Bail

Nairobi — A councillor in Bungoma District has been charged with defiling and assaulting a schoolgirl.

Malakisi town council vice-chairman Nelson Okumu Wekesa appeared before senior resident magistrate Robinson Oigara at a Kimilili court to answer the charges.

He, however, denied defiling the 15-year-old girl. The minor, a Standard Seven pupil, is said to be four months pregnant.

The magistrate released the councillor on a bond of Sh100,000 with one surety of the same amount.
