Kampala — Singer Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine's much-touted music fete was on Friday night ended prematurely after police halted any further performances on the orders of the Division Police Commander Jinja road police station, Joel Aguma.
Chief promoter and organiser of the music fete, Balaam Barugahara of Balaam Enterprises Ltd told Sunday Monitor that they were taken by surprise, and a visibly livid Bobi Wine wasn't any less stunned.
The development came in the wake of last week's countrywide terror alert issued by police following what it described as a credible threat of attacks targeting public places around the city. Police ended the show a few minutes after 11p.m.
According Mr Barugahara, police had prior strictly warned them to close the show at exactly 11p.m but Bobi Wine did not seem to have taken this seriously.
The artiste was launching his increasingly popular latest album, Mazzi Mawanzu. In a press briefing yesterday, Kampala Extra Police spokesman Simeo Nsubuga warned the public that the said terrorists targeted congested places like taxi parks, markets, embassies, hotels and other strategic areas within the city.
"I feel cheated. I don't understand why other artistes have held similar shows but police had to move in to stop my show. People paid to watch me perform and there've had to return home yearning. It is unfair," Bobi Wine told Sunday Monitor on Friday night before owning up to the fact that he had been warned not to exceed 11p.m.
