Port Harcourt — Niger Delta Technical Committee has reached out to the pan-Igbo cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, and asked for its memorandum on resolution of the Niger Delta crises.
According to a statement by the Publicity Secretary of AC in Rivers State, Chief Eze Emeka Eze, the Committee reached out to Ohanaeze through member of the Committee and gubernatorial candidate of Action Congress (AC) in Rivers State during the last general elections, Prince Tonye Princewill.
Eze said the Committee members interacted with leaders of Ohanaeze, and told them that their position paper on the issue was needed due to the prime position they occupy both in the country and on the issue.
President General of the group, Dr Edozie Ikedife, former governor of Enugu State and Chieftain of Ohaneze, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo among others, were among those Princewill met in Enugu on the issue.
"It would be out of place if the inputs of the great Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo will not be considered alongside over 377 memoranda already submitted by various interest groups, which warrants my presence in Enugu, to get Ohaneze Ndi Igbo's own memorandum," Princewill explained.
He said the issue of neglect and under-development of the Niger Delta was clear to them, as they have been involved in the fight for justice in the region, adding that if the issues of poverty, unemployment and environmental degradation are addressed, calm would return to the region.
