Harare — IGNATIUS Mketekete is the 2008 Africom Pro-Am Golf Classic champion.

Mketekete won the tournament when he sunk an aggregate score of 137 over the two days of the event at Borrowdale Brooke and Country Club.

On day one of the competition last Thursday, Mketekete finished the 18 holes with a score of 5-under 67 before managing 70 in the final round on Friday.

Mketekete capped his fine day on the greens by scoring an eagle on the 18th hole of the second round to wrap up the championship.

In the absence of 2007 winner Tongoona Charamba, Mketekete was on of the favourites and said he had enjoyed his day on the greens.

"I played very well and I actually enjoyed my game.

"I liked the way the course was playing and the greens," he said.

Mketekete believes his strong tee and fine putt carried the day for him.

"My tee was good and the putt was fine too. I think that's where I won my game, from the tee and putt."

He said he was now focused on the next event on the Zimbabwe Professional Golfers' Association tour's calendar, which is likely to be the Hwange Open.

"This win has motivated me to be eager for the Hwange Open.

"I now feel that I am going to take the fine form to the next competition," he said.
