Moroka Swallows' two-goal hero Phumelele 'Ace' Bhengu says he is ready for the big challenge this season.
Bhengu, who netted a brace during the Absa Premiership game against Kaizer Chiefs at Olympia Park Stadium yesterday, proved his goal scoring prowess when he scored in the 22nd minute after Cecil Oerson had knocked the ball into his path. The 18-year-old striker displayed his class by coolly slotting the ball past a diving Itumeleng Khune.
The Kwazulu\Natal-born striker was back again nine minutes later to register his second goal; this time finishing off the spade work done by David Radebe, to give the Dube Birds their second victory over Amakhosi this season.
Speaking to KickOff.com after the game, Bhengu said both goals against Chiefs yesterday was a sign of things to come.
"It was nice to score both goals and help my team win, but it was more exciting to score against a big team like Chiefs.
"This was the greatest moment of my career. I know that now I have set myself up and there will be expectations from the fans, but I am ready to keep on doing what they expect of me."
Bhengu, who also paid tribute to his former mentors at amateur level, Lindani Shezi and Paul Habib at Moroka Swallows' development team, said that playing alongside striker David Radebe has helped him learn some finer points of being a good striker.
"So far I am clicking well with Radebe. He has been in this game for some time and I am learning a lot from his experience."
"I want to thank Shezi and Habib for the role they have played in my career. The only way I can pay them back is to continue playing well for Swallows this season."
Bhengu is a member of the Amajita squad that will face Botswana in the African Youth Championship qualifier at Absa Park Stadium in Kimberley this weekend.
"There is no way that we will lose that game. I have great confidence that they will beat Botswana this weekend."
