South Africa: Fransman, Fanteni on Target

6 October 2008

Bevan Fransman scored a dramatic 88th minute winner for his Israeli club Maccabi Netanya on Sunday to hand them an away win against highly fancied Maccabi Haifa and also a top place in the league.

Fransman cracked home a screaming shot to give Netanya a major boost as they chase a first league title in 25 years.

It was Fransman's second goal in seven appearances for his new club, whom he joined last month.

The 25-metre shot from the former Moroka Swallows and Kaizer Chiefs defender livened up a dreary affair at the Ramat Gan stadium in Israel's main city.

The three points take Lothar Matthaus' team back to the top of the standings and mean that, despite playing unimpressive football so far this season, Netanya has now won four of their first five matches.

Netanya lead by two points from Maccabi Haifa, the club of Tsepo Masilela and Thembinkosi Fanteni, who scored twice after coming on as a substitute in the 3-1 win on Saturday over Maccabi Petach Tikva.
