Lagos — Rivers State government has said it will turn all major roads in Port Harcourt into two-lanes, to ease traffic congestion.
Commissioner for Works, Mr Dakuku Peterside, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Port Harcourt, that some of the affected roads would include Ada-George, Rumuola and First Bank to Woji roads.
Peterside said the project was aimed at easing traffic in the city and that there were 100 on-going road projects in the state.
He also said government was constructing more roads in the rural areas than in the cities, to ease movement from one community to the other, adding that under the scheme, all township roads at Elele town had been constructed while similar work would be done for all roads in Bori and Ahoada.
Peterside said government was not in a hurry to provide infrastructure, but would plan very well before embarking on any project.
On drains, the commissioner said the government was trying its best to tackle the problem and would provide drains in such a way that there would be no flood on the major roads.
