Nigeria: Turai Yar'Adua Postpones NGO Launch

6 October 2008

Lagos — First Lady, Hajia Turai Yar'Adua, has directed the postponement of inauguration of her pet project, Women and Youth Empowerment Foundation (WAYEF), billed for inauguration on October 11.

National Coordinator of the project, Mr Muttaka Rabe, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the weekend in Abuja, that a new date for the launch would be announced later.

He said though the NGO had done a lot since its inception about two years ago, there was the need to formally present it to the public.

"WAYEF has achieved a lot in providing assistance in various ways, especially to women and youths since its inception about two years ago," Rabe said.

He said WAYEF had identified five main areas of intervention for the less-privileged women and youths in the areas of health education and social services, agriculture and environmental control.
