Arusha — Dealers in forest products without valid certificates from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism have been called upon to ensure that they registered and licensed their businesses.
The call was made by the regional forests officer Julius Achiula, who expressed his worry on the prevalent black market sales of forest products saying it was sabotage of the national economy.
Achiula said forestry sector was one of major contributors to the national income but of late there have been widespread illegal deals in the harvest of forest products.
Achiula said the government had given one month for all dealers in forest products to register between July and August this year, an exercise that proved failure and said they had been given an extension of one week to effect their registration.
He said only 470 dealers registered after expiry of the period given compared to 500 that registered last calendar year.
