Kampala — Uganda Rugby Cranes performance at the annual Prinsloo Nakuru Sevens set for October 10-12 in the Western Kenyan town of Nakuru will cast a clear shadow on how prepared the team is after three weeks of training at Kampala RFC.
As the team prepares for the African qualifying round of the International Rugby Board (IRB) 7s Rugby World Cup in Tunisia later this month, coach John Musoke asserts that players' performance at the Nakuru Athletics Club tourney will be symbolic.
"Basically, everyone will get a run out which is relevant after weeks of training. Players will test what we are doing in match situations," Musoke told Daily Monitor.
Against 14 other regional teams, the ruggers will be keen to bury a dismal Tusker Safari 7s display earlier this year and Musoke believes that everyone has turned the corner.
"After the Safari showing, we told all the players that we shall judge them from the (recently concluded) utl 7s circuit and have chosen only the best from the circuit. Good opposition in Nakuru provides a decent trial," he added.
Three slots at the 2009 IRB 7s RWC are at stake in Tunisia where Uganda is drawn in Pool D alongside Swaziland, Cameroon and Namibia.
