Ethiopia: Cambridge University to Launch International Diploma Program

Addis Ababa — University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) partnered with Zemen Development and Management Institute (ZDMI) in Addis Ababa is to launch associate partnership which is said to bring a major capacity building qualification Ethiopia.

Solomon Seleshi, Executive Director of ZDMI, said at a press conference on Friday that University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) is the world wide famous institution based in England that engages with a small number of associate partners around the world who represent the university in local regions in order to deliver its mission.

These partners have met the rigorous delivery standards demanded by the top world brand higher education institutions and are able to quality assure other education and training organisations to deliver Cambridge academic programmes, he added.

4cPM, the wing of Cambridge University, in collaboration with ZDMI, is bringing an academic level 6/7 (degree/masters) postgraduate qualification into Ethiopia. The qualification, which is conferred by the University, is work-based and targets experienced project managers and project based organisations that need an internationally recognised qualification to demonstrate their skills and credibility. The International Diploma in Project Management (IDPM) carries the Cambridge logo and can be achieved locally, according to the director.

"Zemen is an education and training institution which works across Ethiopia and internationally with a wide range of programmes validated by several other major institutes. The IDPM will now add to Zemen's one of higher education offer." According to Solomon, "Many projects fail because of inaccurate and inappropriate project design. Zemen is trying to make an effort to fill the gap in collaboration with Cambridge." ZDMI is engaged in facilitation of short and full term trainings to enhance the capacity of professional work in different sectors such as the non-profit organizations, health, education, public and construction.
