Addis Abeba — As part of the commemorative events to mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Ethiopia, the Minister of State for Commerce and Power of India, Jairam Ramesh, lead a composite delegation of officials, public and private sector to Ethiopia from 5-7 October, 2008.
During his visit, Jairam Ramesh will hold the 5th round of India-Ethiopia Joint Trade Committee with Ahmed Tusa, State Minister for Trade in the Ministry of Trade and Industry of Ethiopia, the Indian embassy here said in a statement.
The two Ministers had earlier met in New Delhi in June 2006 for the 4th meeting of the JTC, and during the interval between the two meetings, the India-Ethiopia economic partnership has significantly increased, the embassy added.
The minister is also likely to meet the Minister for Energy and Mines, Alemayehu Tegenu, Minister for Finance and Economic Development, Sufian Ahmed, and other local dignitaries.
Jairam Ramesh will be accompanied by a delegation of economic institutions and private sector investors besides the official delegation.
Accompanying him will be senior representatives of the Infrastructure, Leasing and Financial Services company from Mumbai, the Exim Bank, the Export Credit Guarantee Corporation, the Telecommunication Consultants of India Ltd, the Council for Leather Exports, the Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd., Kanan Devan Hills Plantation, National Institute of Information Technology and several companies, which are implementing projects in Ethiopia including KEC, IRCON and the like.
The Minister and his delegation would separately meet with Indian entrepreneurs under the India Business Forum to assess the implementation and the impact of Indian investment in Ethiopia. A separate session with Ethiopian economic institutions and businesses will also take place.
The Indian minister has been holding the portfolio of Commerce since 31st January 2006 and is now also holding the portfolio of Power since 6th April, 2008.
