Angola: Combat to Persistent Organic Pollutants Launched

Luanda — The Ministry of Urbanisation and Environment in collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) this Monday, in Luanda, launched a project of combat to persistent organic pollutants.

The launching ceremony happened at a workshop on environment held at Trópico Hotel, and that was attended by representatives of various ministries.

Addressing ANGOP, the national director of Environment, João Vintém, stressed the importance of a greater commitment to environmental rehabilitation, as a method of precaution against some diseases.

João Vintém also explained that the country has been implementing some of the most important conventions concerning the combat to poverty and the preservation of biodiversity.

He said that last March, Angola presented the strategy of implementing UN's fourth convention on the climate changes and preservation of biodiversity.

Persistent organic pollutants are chemical substances which, possessing some toxic property, resist, contrarily to other pollutants, to degrading, which makes them particularly harmful to human health and environment.
