Addis Ababa — President Girma Woldegiorgis has opened the Parliament with an address that has identified the ensuring of good governance and sustainable peace as being key aims among the government's priorities for the country over the course of the year ahead.
Speaking at the opening of the third session of the fourth legislative year of the House of Peoples' Representatives and the House of the Federation yesterday, President Girma said the government will undertake a serious of activities including some reforms aimed at ensuring good governance and sustainable peace. He added that efforts will also continue to ensure that the economy grows at over 10%.
He said the houses are expected to pass various laws to further sustain the economy.
The President also spoke of reforms as the government will present proclamations pertaining to the reestablishment of different authorities including the Ministry of Information, the Standards and Quality Authority, the National Meteorology Institute. He also said reforms on Higher Education, Social Insurance, and Health Care and on a Health Supervision Authority would also be intended by the year.
Anti-Terrorism Proclamation will also be submitted to the House of Peoples' Representatives based on the constitution and drawing lessons from international practice.
Members from both parliamentary Houses and rrepresentatives of the diplomatic corps and other invited guests attended the opening ceremony.
