Warri — The security outfit, Joint Task Force (JTF), yesterday said those involved in illegal bunkering in the Niger Delta region have now turned to armed robbers, because JTF has paralysed the illicit oil business.

This is coming on the heels of the arrest of five armed robbery suspects in Delta State, by the special security operatives in the region.

JTF said it had handed over to Delta State Police Command for further necessary action, five armed robbery suspects arrested in Agbobi, Ika South-east Local Government Area of the state.

The JTF, also known as "Operation Restore Hope,"said yesterday it was "irrevocably committed to sanitising small towns and villages in the Niger-Delta, and especially Delta and Bayelsa states, of arms and ammunition," despite criminal activities and other acts of blackmail.

He said the criminals, who were largely responsible for the spate of illegal bunkering, particularly in the two states, have resorted to using illegal weapons in their possession for robbery, because the JTF operations have practically paralysed the illicit oil business.

"JTF Commander, Brig-General Nanven Rimtip, has warned militant groups in the Niger Delta region to drop weapons and embrace peace, in the interest of all," JTF spokesman said.
