6 October 2008

SkyVision, a leading global telecommunication service provider, has announced a N2 billion investment on a reliable broadband solution for Nigerian businesss and users, even as it welcomes the first ten new customers who are now completeing the installation of their SkyVision Combi platform, scheduled to deliver service before year-end.

SkyVision will be mainly using the powerful inclined orbit AfricaSat-1 satellite. SkyVision Combi was launched in June 2008 and already SkyVision is delivering its services to General Data and Engineering, its first customer in Nigeria and over 10 new customers currently completing their SkyVision Combi installation.

SkyVision Combi is designed first and foremost to deliver high-capacity Internet access in a package that makes it readily accessible to new customers and will affect every person in Nigeria by its universal offering of cost-effective broadband Internet connectivity.

"sKYvISION Combi is an innovative solution combining advanced technology and high-capacity Internet service designed for a mature Internet market with the advantage of ground breaking package pricing designed to upgrade existing Internet communication capabilities while removing the implementation barriers traditionally associated with massive upgrade to communications solutions", said Mark Gazit, SkyVision's President and CEO who visited Nigeria recently.

According to him Combi is a comprehensive satellite offering, that includes the complete earth station; on site installation; training and unlimited, high-speed bandwidth all for an affordable single month fee. "This service provides a low-risk, easy-to-implement solution for any Nigerian provider seeking to upgrade his broadband connectivity capability. The low-risk is particularly appealing to companies who wish to move fast"

The service utilises high-quality satellite C-band service with advanced DVB S2 technology for optimal performance that is immune to the difficulties presented by the heavy-rain environment in Nigeria, Gazit said, adding that the advantage of a high speed Internet solution is that the end-user experience is comparable to traditional landline broadband services-with more reliable availability typically achieved by satellite.

A low-cost solution with no start up fee is ideal to meet the growing demand for broadband access and the next generation applications which in Nigeria are growing faster than anywhere else in the world.
