Lagos — Ten Nigerians yesterday began a two-week intensive economic development strategy training programme in Seoul, the capital of South Korea .
A News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN ) Correspondent in Seoul reports that the programme is sponsored by the South Korean government to complement President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua's seven point agenda in the area of Human Capacity Development.
The Programme coordinator Ms Soo-Jin Keum, told the participants that the training was designed to meet the needs of Nigeria , especially in the area of Human resource development.
She explained that the programme was also aimed at promoting friendly relations and mutual understanding between South Korea and Nigeria .
The training will focus on the importance of sound macro-economic policies, competition through deregulation and market opening, as well as good institutional environment, she said.
The participants will undertake study tours to Korea National Oil Corporation, Cadastral Survey Corporation, Gumi Industrial Complex, Wolsung Nuclear Power Generation and Hyundai Heavy Industries.
NAN reports that South Korea is the 13th Economy in the world with a per capita income of 20,045 dollars (N2,400) as at last year.
A participant, Alhaji Bunu Monguno, who is also the Permanent Secretary Cabinet Affairs in Borno State said the programme was relevant to an emerging economy like Nigeria .
"We can copy the good practices and make it relevant to our growth".
Participants were drawn from the federal Ministries and Agencies while Borno and Delta states have one each.
