The Mo Ibrahim Foundation has published the 2008 Ibrahim Index of African Governance, a comprehensive and authoritative assessment of how Africa is being governed.
It ranks Sierra Leone 37th out of 48 countries, with an overall score of 49.1 out of 100. Within the Economic Community of West African States, Sierra Leone ranks 12th out of the 16 countries in the region.
The Ibrahim Index is shining a spotlight on national governance performance in sub-Saharan Africa.
Each country is assessed against 57 criteria grouped under five overarching categories that together form the cornerstone of a government's obligations to its citizens: safety and security; rule of law, transparency and corruption; participation and human rights; Sustainable economic opportunity; and human development.
The Ibrahim Index is constantly being strengthened and refined to better reflect what is happening in Africa.
A project of the Mo Ibrahim Foundation, the Ibrahim Index aims to strengthen governance on the continent in order to improve the lives of Africans everywhere.
