Ghana: Appiah Laments Duos Absence

7 October 2008

Ghana captain Stephen Appiah is confident there are suitable replacements for Michael Essien and Laryea Kingston in their crucial 2010 World Cup qualifier against Lesotho on Saturday.

The Black Stars must annihilate the Crocodiles if they want to reach the second phase of the qualifiers but will be without injured Essien for the Group Five game in Sekondi.

Even though Kingston, who is suspended, will also not be available, Appiah is confident that there are good enough players to replace the missing duo.

"There's no doubt that the absence of Essien and Laryea is a blow for us," Appiah said.

"Ghana has got enough talented players to replace our missing world class players.

"I think if the guys are given the opportunity to serve the country they will impress to help us qualify."

Ghana must thrash Lesotho to be able to qualify for the second phase.
