Luanda — The governor of Luanda, Francisca do Espírito Santo, Tuesday here met the United Nations undersecretary general and executive director of UN Habitat, Anna Tibaijuka.
Anna Tibaijuka left for the Provincial Government of Luanda to bid farewell and thank for the conditions and hospitability that she received in Angola, mainly in the country's capital city, Luanda.
During the visit, the UN official expressed surprise after noticing that the majority of Luanda population is young people.
"I could notice that apart from oil, diamonds and other riches that Angola has, the most important that the country owns are undoubtedly the youth, that is why there should be created opportunities and developed community programmes that involve the youth, as they
are a key factor for the development", she affirmed at the end of the meeting.
Anna Tibaijuka said that during a short time that she was in Luanda she could observe that the province has incredible potentials of growth, enabling the city to develop harmoniously.
The UN undersecretary general and executive director of UN Human Settlement Programme, reminded that Luanda city won Dubai Habitat Award, and she believes that the Angolan capital will continuing scooping other prizes.
On her turn, Luanda governor, Francisca do Espírito Santo, told the press that Anna Tibaijuka had the opportunity to see that many information that she had concerning the living quality and treatment given to vulnerable citizens is not true.
"She leaves the country more clarified on the work that the Government is carrying out aiming at the betterment of the living standard of Angolans, particularly in Luanda city and she also proposed to work with Luanda for the exchange of experience and support in the
development of projects underway", she explained.
