Harare — THOUSANDS of people from all walks of life last Saturday thronged the Morris Depot grounds in Harare for the annual Police Commissioner-General's Family Funfair.
The funfair is a family day, which is held annually by Police Commissioner-General Augustine Chihuri.
This year's edition lived to its billing and featured a star-studded lineup comprising sungura maestro Alick Macheso, Mahendere Brothers and the two new groups based at Juru Growth Point -- Customer King Band and Mutengi Ndimambo Mbira Group.
Police Dance Band was among the groups that performed at this annual event.
Police spokesperson Superintendent Andrew Phiri yesterday said the Police Commissioner-General's Funfair 2008 was well-attended.
"It was a success like all the years, the organisation ensured that all preparations were up to standard and everything went on well.
"The crowds were thrilled by all the bands that were performing and there was also other forms of entertainment," he said.
Supt Phiri said no criminal activities were recorded during the event.
He said they will soon publish details of the money that was raised and all proceeds from the function would be for charity.
Activities that were lined up included motorbike drills, horse rides, police dog displays, Ajigija the Clown, comedians, swimming, jumping castles, motorcycle rides and face painting for children.
Macheso, put icing on the cake by enthralling revellers with both old and new songs that included Chengetai, Murume, Shedia and Madhuve.
As has become the norm, Macheso could afford to give his followers a taste of his new material when he belted his forthcoming song Chimoko Changu.
Macheso and Orchestra Mberikwazvo outfit lived to their name as they delighted revelers with a well-choreographed act, while Mahendere Brothers also played to their best.
Customer King Band played some of the songs which include Pakukwereta Maiuya Mushe, Jennifer, Rufu, Nanga Nanga Neni, Usaomere Kufunga and Nyarai. Mutengi Ndimamambo Mbira Group, which also had their own stage at the grounds performed well.
