Angola: CVA Promotes Blood Donation Campaign

Luanda — About 35 donors linked to the Brazilian construction company Odebrecht, will donate blood this Tuesday to the Haemotherapy Section of the public Josina Machel Hospital, an action being promoted by the Luanda Province secretariat of the Angolan Red Cross (CVA).

According to the provincial secretary of this organisation in Luanda, Mankumbundu Kiala, the activity is aimed at decreasing the necessity of blood in this hospital in order to help patients in need of it.

The official said that this work is also being carried out with various members of religious organisations that joined the CVA in the blood donation service, as well as in providing first aids.

Firstly, awareness campaign with Odebrecht's employees was held in order to prepare them for the activities, through workshops, in partnership with Haemotherapy Centre of the public Josina Machel Hospital, he added.

The donation is part of the CVA social object, aimed at helping needy people in various domains such as health, education, and agriculture and awareness on the dangers of landmines and HIV/Aids.

The awareness work is carried out by activists who were trained by this philanthropic institution and it has been involving various companies and churches based in the country's capital city, as a place with high population density.
