Uganda: Mildmay Initiates Viral Count Technology

Martin Ssebuyiira

8 October 2008

The Mildmay centre has launched a viral count machine to test and treat HIV/Aids patients in efforts to make diagnosis and treatment easy.

The centre's Country Director, Dr Emmanuel Luyirika, said the machine would test DNA and PCR (Polymeras chain reaction) to know the virus in a person's blood unit for proper medications. "It can help you tell the number of virus in a person's blood and know the drugs to administer," he said.
