In a move to curb the indiscriminate use of siren in Imo State, the legislature has passed into law a bill that authorises only six top officials to enjoy such privilege.
Those in the category include the Governor , Deputy Governor and the Speaker of the House of Assembly.
Others include Deputy Speaker, Chief Judge and Chairman of Traditional Rulers.
The law equally provided for arrest and prosecution of defaulters by the law enforcement agencies.
It would be recalled that Governor Ikedi Ohakim had even before his election raised alarm on the abuse of siren in the state considering the security implications.
Even before the passage of the bill, Ohakim reportedly petitioned the Inspector -General of Police, seeking his he sought the intervention on the matter. Top politicians accused by the governor include Sen. Ifeanyi Ararume, Chief Tony Ezenna( Orange Drugs), Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, Chief Martin Agbaso, Chief Marcellanus Nlemeigbo, Imo State Chairman of PDP and Dr.(Mrs) Kema Chikwe, now Nigerian Ambassador in the Republic of Ireland.
