DAAR Commu nications Plc, owner of African Independent Television (AIT) and RayPower FM, yesterday, added another feather to its cap as it commissioned and unveiled its direct-to-home digital satellite multi-channel television platform, referred to as DAARSat, at its corporate headquarters, in Abuja.
DAARSat, according to the Chairman, DAAR Communications, Dr. Raymond Dokpesi, which has the capacity for 120 channels, would, in the meantime, offer about 45 best channels around the world to consumers.
Dokpesi who spoke shortly before the formal commissioning of the project by President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua, also said that Nigerian is the hub of DAARSat operations, adding that the channels in the bouquet are world standards and "transmitted to homes in high definition. DAARSat signals will be delivered digitally on DVB-S2M PEG4/HD STB with 250 gigabyte hard disk base".
He added, "We have paid great attention to customer satisfaction. We will, therefore, not compromise on quality service delivery, value on investment and excellent customer relations. We are working in partnership with the Indian-based Magnaquest Technologies PVT Ltd, the world's biggest customer service firm in the management of our subscriber portfolio.
"DAARSat's operating philosophy is borne out of a compelling need to provide world class service to television audiences and widen the choices available to media content consumers at an affordable rate. DAARSat has a capacity of 120 channel but at launch , offers about 45 of the best channels around the world".
Delivering President Yar'Adua's address on the occasion, the Minister of Communications and Information, Mr. John Ogar Odey, noted with satisfaction that DAAR Communications has become the first Digital Satellite Television of Nigeria origin to broadcast to the rest of the world.
