Lagos — Chief Executive Officer of leading telecoms, Zain Nigeria, Mr. Bayo Ligali, will join leading lights from the Commonwealth Telecom Industry at a Summit in Abuja this week, to chart a new direction for the sector.
The Summit which is organised by the London-based Commonwealth Telecommunication Organisation (CTO) will attract Senior Ministers from the Commonwealth and partner countries, decision makers, regulators, financiers, infrastructure developers and technology providers, among others.
Ligali is expected to join the experts in developing forward-looking strategies for growing the rapidly evolving and extremely challenging telecoms industry in Africa and while maintaining current growth momentum.
He will present a paper on "Opportunities and Challenges for Mobile Operators in Africa: The Zain Experience," at the Summit.
The paper will highlight telecom industry growth opportunities and drivers, how telecom companies can help strengthen regional integration, strategic approach to technological enhancements and convergence, the right approach to product development and differentiation and challenges to achieving expected growth targets.
In addition, Zain will further use the platform to show-case its bouquets of products and services during the Conference.
The event which has commenced in Abuja was declared open by the President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua and would end on October 8.
The focus of the international summit include the following: Exploration of the African fertile emerging market, benchmarking the strategies for the continent's telecom industry against regional and international standards, helping industry operators to incorporate in their business objectives, the African rural connectivity agenda, and how to encourage partnership between private and public sectors and regulators for the good of the industry.
