South Africa: Second Phase of Deviations to Start on Ben Schoeman

Nthambeleni Gabara

8 October 2008

Pretoria — The Bombela Construction Company team is preparing to implement the second phase of deviations along the Ben Schoeman Highway, north of the Eufees Road exit.

Bombela Concession Company spokesperson, Kelebogile Machaka told BuaNews the construction works will commence on 12 October.

Ms Machaka said the construction works will affect traffic along the northbound carriageway towards Pretoria.

She said northbound traffic will be deviated onto lanes situated to the right of the existing road, adding that traffic will be reinstated to its original position once the construction work is completed towards the end of next year.

Over the past few months, southbound traffic has been deviated onto temporary lanes to allow Bombela to construct a cut and cover structure that will carry the Gautrain over the Ben Schoeman.

The first phase of the construction works affecting the southbound lanes have been completed and will result in traffic along the southbound carriageway being reinstated to its original position.

"Gautrain wishes to urge motorists to take note of the temporary signage and be vigilant of construction vehicles along the road as the construction progresses," she said.
