Tunisia: Democratic Constitutional Rally's 5th Congress Will Take Place From July 30 to August 2, 2008 in Tunis

Tunis — The Democratic Constitutional Rally's (RCD) 5th congress which is placed this year under the theme of "The Challenge", is due to take place from July 30 to August 2, 2008 in Tunis.

The Rally which counts some 2 million members throughout the country holds its congress every 5 years. The RCD is also one of the 3 oldest political parties in the world.

The previous RCD congresses include the Congress of Salvation in 1988, the Congress of Perseverance in 1993, the Congress of Excellence in 1998, and the Congress of Ambition in 2003.

It is expected that the Democratic Constitutional Rally's 5th congress which comes against the backdrop of the 2009 presidential elections, will be the launching pad of a new strategy of political action geared to win the stakes of the future while strengthening the Republic of tomorrow.

The Democratic Constitutional Rally, which is Tunisia majority party is also one of Tunisia's 8 political parties.

Throughout the years the Rally has increased the rate of women representation to 30% within the party's central committee, and to 28,6% within its national federations. The party also comprises 6072 territorial cells and 2173 professional cells, as well as 362 federations including 35 federations based abroad.

Recent measures taken by President Ben Ali to strengthen the presence of young people within the party's central committee, include adding two RCD members, a man and a woman under 30 years of age to each coordination committee, as well as to RCD federations abroad
