Tunis — The Economist's conference series, better known as the "The Economist Conferences", will organize its first business roundtable on the Tunisian economy on October 24, 2008, at the Tunis Sheraton Hotel &Towers.
Prime Minister, Mr Mohamed Ghannouchi will deliver a keynote speech and the Minister of Development and International Cooperation, Mr Nouri Jouini along with the Minister of Industry, Energy and Small and Medium Enterprises, Mr Afif Chelbi, will chair a round table on "sustainable economic growth and the role of the private sector."
A final roundtable chaired by the Minister of Employment Mr Slim Tlatli and by Mr Lazhar Bououni, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, will examine the potential offered by Tunisia's job market.
Dubbed "Raising the potential of a niche economy", the roundtable will also discuss ways of diversifying the Tunisian economy, as well as addressing new challenges.
Other issues as what changes does the business community want to see in Tunisia? How are the new trade links and new investors changing the economic and business outlook? And how can the growing new sectors -technology, engineering and health- be supported and skill shortages filled, will be discussed by high level senior business executives, government officials, and decision makers in the world of business.
It is expected that some 120 participants will take part in this high-level forum, along with several experts of the Economist Intelligence Unit.
The event will take place with the collaboration of the Tunisian Agency for the promotion of foreign investments (FIPA).
