Tunis — Tunis, September 23, 2008- "Cooper Energy", a British energy company has been granted an oil prospecting and drilling permit in the Gulf of Hammamet, dubbed "Bargou".
The company had previously been granted a two year prospecting permit which concluded in April 2008.
The permit which has a 5 year life, covers an area of 4476 square kilometres.
The company which recently successfully completed 2D seismic research off the coast of Hammamet, signed an agreement on Monday with the Tunisian Enterprise of Petroleum Activities (ETAP).
The agreement which was signed respectively by Mr Afif Chelbi, the Minister of energy and small and medium enterprise, by Mr Khaled Ben Cheikh, the CEO of ETAP, and by Mr Todd Scott, the CEO of "Cooper Energy Tunisia Bargou Ltd", fixes the conditions of prospecting, development and drilling.
Investment costs are expected to reach 84 million dinars.
