Tunisia: Amina Fakhet Closes Medina Festival in Style

30 September 2008

Tunis — A great number of fans and music lovers flocked at the Tunis Municipal Theatre to watch the Tunisian singer Amina Fakhet, whose show was scheduled on Sunday to close the 2008 edition of the Medina festival.

Displaying a superb control of her repertoire and excellent command of her voice, the singer opened the show with a song belonging to the religious repertoire Houa (He). For the two remaining hours she sang sentimental songs from both her older repertoire, as well as some of her newest songs.

Upright, with a strong voice, the singer showed her art by interpreting Oum Kalthoum's Hadith Errouh (The dialogue of the soul) and Mohamed Abdelwaheb's Gafnouhou alama el ghazel ( her eyes inspire poetry), two difficult interpretations which the Tunisian Diva sang magisterially, following the notes of a talented orchestra led by a well known conductor, Nabil Zammit.

During the concert, the performer stopped short of engaging with her public like she usually does, focusing instead on her art, which can be explained by the solemnity of the event. The result was that the audience took its fill of the artist's vast singing register.

A memorable evening which displayed yet another facet of one of Tunisia's most talented singers.
