Tunisia: The Sunday Times Ranks Country as One of the World's Top Investment Spots

6 October 2008

Tunis — In its edition dated October 5, 2008, The Sunday Times ranks Tunisia as one of the world's top investment spots.

The article signed Kathryn Cooper, quotes the authoritative global stock index, MSCI World, which shows that 6 countries (the article includes them as part of the "frontier market") are considered as the world's top performers in light of the return on investment one can make. These are: Tunisia which has risen 23%, Oman (14%), Qatar (12%), Lebanon (51%), Jordan (21%), Morocco (2%).

Evoking the recent financial crisis, The Sunday Times writes that Tunisia and Morocco are exceptions, and advises investors to invest in them in the long term and not just a timely alternative to the current crunch: "If you like the long -term argument behind the frontier markets, you are better off putting in your money now than you have been earlier in the year -but do it for the long term and not because the industry is telling you it is a great way to beat the crunch", writes Kathryn Cooper.

The MSCI World is a stock market index of world stocks. It is maintained by MSCI Inc., formerly Morgan Stanley Capital International. The index includes securities from 23 countries, and has been in operation since 1969.
