Tunisia: Household Design Earns Distinction in Paris Exhibit

8 September 2008

Tunis — From September 5 to 9, 2008, Tunisia takes part in the international salon "Maison et Objet" (household design salon ) in Paris. This international event , dedicated to contemporary household design, attracts each year some 3500 exponents, from more than 100 countries. The exhibit is attended by 100,000 people, mostly household decoration professionals.

Tunisia's stand which presents the unique models of 7 enterprises, includes the exhibit of luminaries, decoration articles, hand blown glass, ceramic and copper items, embroidered home fabric , mosaics, carved olive tree wood and stone. Most of the items displayed are characterized by simplicity and sobriety, albeit endowed with a discreet sense of luxury.

The Salon also hosted 5 other Tunisian stands representing both collective and individual artistic exhibits.

Four Tunisian enterprises received special distinctions and saw their products nominated and exposed in the space dedicated to 2009 new trends and influences, under the title 'simplicity'.

This space determines future household trends and fashions as well as those reflecting current taste and style. Its contents are published in specialized magazines.

The four Tunisian collections retained consist of marble stones (bowls and plates), a series of plates and cups in grey glass, and a set of hammam 'foutas' ( bath serviettes), in printed cotton and vegetal tainted wool.
