Tunis — President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali conferred on Monday with the Prime Minister Mr Mohammed Ghannouchi, who briefed him on the advancement of the implementation of program of the upgrading of popular districts surrounding major cities.
The program includes interventions in 26 districts where 166,000 people live, at a cost of 114 million dinars.
In this framework, the Head of State issued instructions with a view to speed up the completion of this program, in line with the set deadlines so as to improve the basic infrastructure, provide the necessary equipments and promote the quality of life in the concerned popular districts.
He also recommended to expand these programs so that they gradually reach the popular districts that are in need of an urgent intervention to improve the conditions of life of their citizens.
On the other hand, President Ben Ali took cognizance of the meeting of the Higher Development Council , which gathered the representatives of all the sectors concerned, including political parties, national organisations, regional councils and competencies.
He also called to follow up on the ideas and suggestions of the council in order to anchor the foundations of global development.
