Tunisia: Minister of Higher Education Pays Tribute to Country's Nasa Scientist

Tunis — During a ceremony organized at the headquarters of the Ministry of higher education scientific research and technology, Mr Lazhar Bououni, paid tribute to the Tunisian scientist Mr Mohamed Laoucet Ayari, scientific advisor at the American National Aeronautics Space Administration (NASA), and stressed the desire of his ministry to strengthen ties with foreign universities.

The minister also noted that the tribute paid to the Tunisian scientist was an opportunity to make better known the work and competences of Tunisian scientists abroad.

Among his many scientific achievements, Dr Ayari recently set up a system, using an electronic telescope capable of detecting and observing the lunar crescent.

The invention, which will facilitate the observation of the lunar crescent in spite of adverse weather conditions, will save considerable time and efforts to determine the position of the lunar aster in setting up the beginning of religious holidays or events.

The Tunisian scientist, expressed his commitment to increase efforts in order to contribute to Tunisia 's aura abroad, as well as his willingness in giving conferences in Tunisian universities, so as to make to enable Tunisian students to benefit from his expertise.
