South Africa: Bucs Expect Mthembu 'Anytime Soon'

8 October 2008

Orlando Pirates are expecting the arrival of striker Siphelele Mthembu at Johannesburg Stadium to begin training 'anytime soon'.

However, the former Maritzburg City player may have to wait for another week, or even longer, before he can truly begin his new life with the Mighty Buccaneers.

Pirates won the boardroom battle against Kaizer Chiefs for the services of Mthembu when the League's Dispute Resolution Chamber ruled yesterday that the pre-contract he signed with Bucs was valid.

However, Chiefs were granted seven days in which to lodge an appeal against the ruling. According to the Amakhosi website today, management is still reviewing the matter before making a decision on whether to take the matter further to the Appeal Board, and possibly to Arbitration.

Pirates' communications manager Mickey Modisane meanwhile told KickOff.com that while they will respect the seven days granted to the Amakhosi, they are expecting to see the youngster at the Johannesburg Stadium for training.

"He is our player and we expect him at training at anytime soon," Modisane added.

Meanwhile, Maritzburg City owner Bongi Hlophe, whose team also gave evidence in the prolonged dispute between the two Soweto giants, says his only part in the matter was signing Mthembu's clearance that was handed to Bucs.

"I knew all along that the boy belonged to Orlando Pirates as it was the team that we handed Mthembu's clearance letter to," he told KickOff.com.
