Cape Town — Police have seized 10kg of cocaine with an estimated street value of between R5-million and R6-million from a Russian vessel docked in Table Bay.
The vessel, which was set to leave South African shores at 2am on Tuesday, was scoured by members of an independent shipping agency who were searching for stowaways on board, when they discovered the cocaine.
Police spokesperson Captain Dennis Andriao confirmed that about 10kg was confiscated and the vessel had undergone a thorough search.
No arrests were made.
Cape Town's harbours have been buzzing with the arrival of foreign vessels in recent weeks including a courtesy visit from US nuclear warship, the USS Theodore Roosevelt. A Chilean tall ship, the Esmeralda, is also docked in the harbour for five days.
