Luanda — The political and military situation in northern Cabinda province is stable, said Wednesday in Luanda the chief of Staff of the Angola Armed Forces (FAA), gen. Francisco Furtado.
Speaking to Angop and Rádio Nacional de Angola (RNA) broadcasting station, on the occasion of the 17th anniversary of FAA, gen. Furtado explained that sporadic crimes are committed by elements who jump the border from the neighbouring states, namely DR Congo and Congo Brazzaville".
He stated that the province is currently enjoying an environment of calm and peace, at times disturbed by criminals who carry out gang or isolated acts that cause some constraint.
The general said that the situation is now better than in the past, after the measures adopted on the ground by the forces of order, mainly aimed at securing a major stability and control of the routes of entry along the border.
Angolan Government signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Cabinda Forum for Dialogue (FCD), on August 2, 2006, with a view to establishing peace in that region of the national territory.
Roughly, the accord provided for a special status to the region, integration of FCD elements into all structures of the State and turn the organisation into a national political party.
The main event of the celebrations of FAA's 17th anniversary will take place on Thursday (October 9) in central Huambo province, chaired by the National Defence minister, Kundi Paihama.
