Jinja — Ugandans need to become local tourist but also visit the rest of East Africa to promote the sector, fisheries minister Fred Mukisa has urged.
The sector, he said, had for years lagged behind and Ugandans must "do local tourism" to promote it.
The minister made the remarks while opening Hornsleth Tropicana Hotel at the Nile Crescent in Jinja town.
The facility is owned by Birger Wulffeld, a friend of Christian Von Hornsleth, the man behind the defunct pig-for-a-name project. "Uganda was a tourist destination but we lost due to the past turmoil," Mukisa said.
